Operation Hawkeye

Operation Hawkeye is classified TOP SECRET and was authorised personally by the previous Home Secretary shortly after the Hephaestus Scandal broke.

Origins

The then Home Secretary (Chastity Woodham, CON) brought up the matter of the genetically modified children with the National Police Commissioner. She said that while they were an abomination in the eyes of God there was a duty on us to take care of them to show our compassion for sinners. However, a careful eye should be kept on them, and if the caused trouble they needed to be removed from society immediately.

The result of this was surveillance of known GM people. Any offences that they commited were logged and used against them if they caused any trouble.

The current Home Secretary (Rupert Goodenough, UKIP) is in the coalition government that was elected on the wave of public horror that Hephaestus had got away with things, and had even had the research approved, under the previous government. He took a much more hard-line approach. He directed that it would be appropriate for those confirmed as persistent troublemakers to be taken into preventative detention. In such cases arrest warrants could be issued ‘dead or alive’. Only the Organised Crime & Terrorism Group would deal with these people. A specialist counter GM branch (CT12G) was set up in 2046.

Targets

Those responsible for the disappearance of known Genetically Modified subjects from surveillance. It is not clear exactly who these people are or how they are operating.

Recent Intelligence

Since 2046 there has been a steady loss of contact with those known to be GM. All UK residents that are GM are supposed to register their current address with the police (in the same way that foriegn visa nationals do). In addition their citizen cards are endorsed with their GM status and interactions with local police and goverment services are supposed to flag on the national infrastructure. Exit records do not show that missing GM subjects have left the country, although some social media intelligence has suggested that a number of them have done that.

On 23rd April French police picked up three people acting suspiciously at Gare du Nord having come off the Eurostar. On questioning them it became clear that they were travelling as UK nationals, however their stories didn't make sense to the Gendarmerie and the documents looked suspicious.

On being detained for further questioning all three readily admitted that they were travelling on false identities and they attempted to claim asylum.

This claim was refused and the three suspects have been returned to the Border Command of the National Police. Running Biometrics they have been identified as GM subjects. They are currently in detention at Folkestone pending interrogation by CT12G.
