Scouting the outlying sectors

Eastern Marches - historical

During the Exterminator War, Humanity agreed to start a program of scouting the “eastern” sectors; DF, DJ, EF, EG, EH, EI and EJ. Details of these efforts, at a point in the past, can be found at Martyn Pott's IISS page (the NSC, ESC and SSC links).

Remaining Marches

At the inter-polity summit at NEW MARS in 3211, it was agreed that this program be extended to all adjacent sectors as it was appreciated that an enemy could come from any direction.

The following is the current state of scouting:

  • AF - MSN (ST3): 2 x C5A-S, 1 x SCI, 1 x C5 (Logs) IEN : 5 x C5-S
  • AG - MSN (ST1,ST2): 4 x C5A-S, 2 x SCI, 2 x C5 (Logs) DEFICIENT 2 VESSELS
  • AH - RNV: 3 x SCI, 5 x C5-S, 1 x LSSI GFA: 12 x C1-S, 1 x LSSI SURPLUS 12 Vessels
  • AI - RNV: 8 x C5-S
  • AJ - IEN: 5 x C5-S DEFICIENT 3 VESSELS
  • BF - IEN: 5 x C5-S DEFICIENT 3 VESSELS
  • BJ - FWAN: 8C1AS IEN: 4 x C5-S SURPLUS 4 Vessels
  • CF - IEN: 5 x C5-S DEFICIENT 3 VESSELS
  • CJ - MSN (ST10): 2 x C5A-S, 1 x SCI, 1 x C5 (Logs) UXN: 3 x DDI, 1 x AMI LONAW: 1 x AMI, 2 x C5A

Each sector requires around 8 scouting vessels to detect a significant base (JIM0000 “Pretty much any ship will detect an Exterminator construction base because it is big and doing hi-visibility things like strip-mining resources.”). For smaller objects, the spotting rules in the rulebook are relevant.
